Always shown with respect
When Jesus appears, the story slows down. We tell his moments plainly and seriously, straight from the Gospels. The jokes are never on him.

Grumpy know-it-all uncle
Has an opinion about how you knead dough, mend nets and walk to market. Is right about half the time. Delivers it all with one enormous eyebrow.

Best friend, fisherman, bad ideas
Fishes the Sea of Galilee all night and calls a handful of sardines "a warm-up." His plans are always ambitious. His ears are always huge.

Little brother who asks "But why?"
Asks the question every kid in your class is thinking. Usually has an olive leaf stuck in his hair. Helps with chores for about a minute.

Little sister (and her goat)
Never goes anywhere without her small white goat. The goat has not been asked whether it agrees with this arrangement.

Mom, who runs everything
Grinds the grain, bakes the bread, works the market and keeps the whole house running before you have finished yawning.

Grandma with stories
"In MY day..." starts most of her sentences, which is handy, because her day was even further back. One tooth, endless history.
